But what do i wear?

Clothing hanging in a closet

If you’re anything like me, trying to figure out what to wear can take FOREVER. It has even stopped me from going somewhere because I don’t like anything in my closet! This will not be you! I will hold your hand every step of the way for your custom session and that includes figuring out your outfits and coordinating for your family, too! Even if that means hiring a personal shopper!

If you’re looking for some advice though, before we go through your closet, here are my TOP TIPS to help you feel and look amazing in your pictures!

  1. CHOOSE SOFT, NEUTRAL & SOLID COLORS

Soft, neutral tones such as blush, ivory, beige, soft blue, and muted greens are universally flattering and create a timeless look. Solid colors tend to photograph better than busy patterns because they keep the focus on you and your family’s expressions, not your clothing. These tones also complement outdoor and indoor settings beautifully, adding a touch of elegance to your photos. Black, gray, navy and white are also classic and timeless!

  2. WEAR CLOTHES THAT FIT

Like Goldilocks, you don’t want your clothes to be too big or too small, you want them to fit you just right! Wearing clothes that fit well not only enhances your appearance but also boosts your confidence and comfort.

  3. LAYERING ADDS DIMENSION & TEXTURE

Adding layers like cardigans, shawls, or a structured blazer can add texture and dimension to your photos. Layers can help create a more polished and styled look while also allowing you to adjust your outfit if the weather changes.

  4. FOCUS ON COMFORT AND CONFIDENCE

The most important thing is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident. When you feel good in your outfit, it will show in your photos. Avoid anything that you constantly need to adjust or that feels too tight or restrictive.

  5. COORDINATE, DON’T MATCH

When planning outfits for the whole family, aim for coordinating colors rather than matching exactly. Choose complementary shades that work well together. For example, if you’re wearing a soft blush dress, your partner could wear a neutral or muted tone that complements it, such as beige or light gray. This approach creates a cohesive look without being too uniform.

  6. SAY YES TO THE DRESS!

Dresses are always a great choice because they add a feminine and elegant touch to your photos. Opt for midi or maxi lengths that are flattering for all body types and add a beautiful flow to your images. Wrap dresses, in particular, are a fantastic choice—they cinch at the waist and create a beautiful hourglass silhouette.

  7. AVOID DISTRACTING PATTERNS and LOGOS

Stay away from bold patterns, logos, or graphics, as they can distract from the overall image and date your photos. Instead, choose subtle textures like lace, knit, or chiffon, which add interest without being overpowering.

  8. ACCESSORIZE THOUGHTFULLY

Accessories can elevate your look, but keep them simple and intentional. Delicate jewelry, a stylish hat, or a soft scarf can add a touch of personality without overwhelming your outfit. Avoid anything too bold or large that might distract from your face and expressions.

  9. CONSIDER THE SEASON AND LOCATION

Dress appropriately for the season and setting of your photoshoot. For example, soft sweaters and boots work well for fall, while light, flowy fabrics are perfect for spring or summer. Consider how your outfit colors will look against the backdrop of your session location.

  10. PAMPER YOURSELF WITH PROFESSIONAL HAIR & MAKEUP

Not only does professional hair & make up enhance your features for the camera, but it also gives you an extra boost of confidence. And the best part?! Our custom sessions include a professional hair and makeup artist who will ensure you look and feel your best!

11. BONUS TIP!

If weather allows, wear 3/4 length or longer sleeves as longer sleeves can create a sleek, elongated look that flatters the arms, while adding a touch of elegance. Pairing them with different necklines offers endless versatility, allowing you to accentuate your best features and achieve a balanced, refined silhouette.

BUT BEFORE YOU GO.. You’re beautiful just as you are! Your photography session is about celebrating you and your family. The most important thing is to choose outfits that make you feel good and reflect your personal style. With these tips, you’ll look amazing in your photos and feel even better. I can’t wait to help you create beautiful memories that you’ll cherish forever!
